Project Description
The 3MED project aimed to develop nano- and micro-carrier systems for the delivery of drugs. In particular, nanocarriers based on hyperbranched peptides were developed alongside microcarriers obtained in forms of alginate beads by a microfluidic system. Physicochemical and cell biology characterisation of the novel carriers was performed and mathematical modelling enabled the optimisation of microfluidics parameters. As far as potential clinical applications are concerned, the project focussed on the treatment of an aggressive breast cancer caused by HER2 receptor-overexpressing cells.
