Project Description

This project aimed to report on the psychometric properties of the Child Sleepiness Scale: child report (CSS-C) and parent-report (CSS-P), and combines data collected using this scale from five separate studies, with the addition of measures of sleep problems and anxiety symptoms for convergent and discriminant validity testing.

Data collection method:

This project included secondary data analysis from data previously collected by the author across five separate studies. These studies included in person data collection at the University research lab, schools, and community groups. Children and parents completed a range of questionnaires about sleepiness, sleep problems, and anxiety, and engaged in behavioural and cognitive tasks (reported elsewhere). The secondary data included collating the questionnaire responses from parents and children related to measures of sleepiness, sleep problems and anxiety only.

Statement on legal, ethical and access issues:

Ethical approval was received from the University Research Ethics Committee for each of the studies included in this project, and (for Study 1) from the NHS Research Ethics Service. Written informed consent was received from parents and children. Data was anonymised at the point of data entry to protect participants' identities. Signposting for relevant mental health and sleep support organisations and charities were provided for participating families. Data is stored securely in the university-managed password protected OneDrive.
