Trace element geochemistry of Magnetite from Iron oxide-apatite and magnetite skarn deposits: A discriminant of deposit type and genesis?

Abstract

A range of trace elements in magnetite have bene proposed to discriminants of mineral deposit type, particularly for Iron oxide-apatite (Kiruna-Type) and iron oxide-copper gold deposits. This data set was acquired to test the robustness of discriminant criteria, and to lay the foundations for a more process based framework for interpretation by comparing the type locality for iron oxide-apatite deposits (Kiruna, Sweden) with high temperature hydrothermal magnetite skarns from the Turgai district, Kazakhstan.
