Experimental heat treatment of silcrete from the Kalahari Desert (Botswana) and Western Cape (South Africa)

Nash, David and Coulson, Sheila and Schmidt, Patrick (2021) Experimental heat treatment of silcrete from the Kalahari Desert (Botswana) and Western Cape (South Africa). [Data Collection]

Project Description

The dataset arises from the British Academy and Leverhulme Trust project `Heat treatment of silcrete raw materials: the implications of temperature-induced transformations for archaeological provenancing studies' (Small Research Grant SG142023). The study used an experimental approach to examine the impact of heat-treatment upon the major and trace element geochemistry of silcrete samples from Botswana and South Africa. The dataset includes the full geochemical dataset from the study. Details of the experimental approach are given in Schmidt et al. (2017) and the interpretation of the dataset in Nash et al. (2019).
