Novelli, Marina (2021) EVALUATION OF INITIAL IMPACTS OF GCP’S TOURISM SUPPORT IN THE GAMBIA. [Data Collection]

Project Description

The GGCP, supported by IDA, is based on the commitment of the GoG to the second pillar of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP 2007-11) for the promotion of pro-poor growth and employment through private sector development. The GoG was the recipient of a $3M grant towards the implementation of the GGCP’s tourism sub-component to be used over a period of 5 years (2011-2015). The TMC is the implementing body whose remit it is to improve the tourism industry’s performance by focusing primarily on ‘marketing’ and ‘skills development’. The scope of this report is to provide an independent evaluation on the overall impact of the GGCP’s tourism sub-component by assessing the activities that have been supported thus far. Specifically: A. To evaluate the contribution of GGCP’s tourism supported activities in the tourism sector, especially for tourist arrivals from both traditional and non-traditional source markets. B. To evaluate the TMC’s marketing initiatives and document the lessons learned during such promotional campaigns. C. To assess the likely impacts of the tourism support including the GTHI; outlining sustainability strategies. D. To evaluate the institutional arrangements of the tourism support with a view to highlighting issues that may require corrective/promotional measures.
